A positive change {AAM challenge #24}

** Oops, I was planning on showing this layout Wednesday a week ago.... But cause of the start of school again, and being busy (and tired) I totally forget.
All About Me exists 1 year and they had asked me as ex designteam member to join in on this challenge. The challenge was to scrap a positive change.
** The picture was taken when I was in Barcelona with a group of colleagues in may.
** The journaling reads:
A positive change.
Yes that is my new job since January certainly!
At last a school, a team where I fit in, where I feel at home, where I can really be myself.
Where I have the feeling being part of the group and not looking in from the side.
Colleagues who appriciate me for who I am and what I can and tell me that too.
A positive change, yest that it is for sure!

Happy birthday All About Me!

All About Me viert haar 1e verjaardag!

Hier is mijn inzending:
** All About Me is celebrating het 1st birthday!
Congrats Melissa on the first birthday of your great challenge blog!!

The challenge for this week is to scrap your best birthday memory. Here is my take:
The journaling:

As a child my birthday always was a party.
Every year there was a cake with candles. The day started with singing and presents on bed.
I always could choose what I wanted to eat, so mostly that were pancakes!
When I went to school, my mom baked cupcakes to hand out to my class mates.

I felt such a birthday girl on such a day!

Giving up...? {AAM challenge #14}

Do you ever give up? And do you feel like you then fail?
Or.... did you give up something and feel that you are strong by doing that?

That is what this weeks challenge is about.

A long time ago I somewhere read the quote:

"Giving up doesn't always mean you are weak;
sometimes it means that you are strong enough to let go."
And the quote stayed with me and pops up every now and then.
I have made a few decisions in life where I had to let go. Not always because I wanted to, but because I needed to.
And yes it felt like giving up, like failing, and it was hard!
But after a while I could see that I made the right choice and that giving up was a strength!

Here is my take:

A day in my life {AAM challenge #11}

The challenge this time at AAM is to scrap an ordinary day. I love this challenge!
So I wanted to share a work day with you. But cause of being ill I didn't get the change to make pictures.
But... of course I had made some pics of my ten sweeties! So my layout is a bit different then I was planning...

(You can't see the faces of the kids, cause of privacy reasons.)

So this are the kids I spent my entire workday with.

Journaling reads:
Each morning at 7.10 am I get in my car and drive to De Meern. Since January 4 2010 my days fills up with these 10 little cuties.
The first 10 of the new come group.  Choosing with the choose board, in the circle we talk, read and sing.
Eating together a little something, crafting together. So, we have a great time!

The soundtrack of my life {AAM challenge #10}

The challenge this week is This is the Soundtrack of My Life.
Music is a powerful means of communication and has the power to cause emotions to well up within us. The emotional response can be varied: happiness, sadness, nostalgia, peacefulness, energy, festivity. This challenge is all about thinking of music that has been an important part of your life, your “soundtrack.” It can be a special song your grandfather sang to you as a child (or one that you sing to your own child), the party mix you listened to your freshman year of college or the one song that brings you to tears every time you hear it. What speaks to you in a special way?

My layout is made with the song These are a few of my favorite things of the Sound of Music in mind.

This makes me angry {AAM challenge #9}

Voor allemaal even wennen dus!

**What makes you angry? Hmm a question I have to think about….
I am in fact not frequently angry. Anger is a emotion  which I do not master well. Anger translates itself at me in sadness mostly. Not real adequately therefore.
I have unlearned myself to become angry on others. Because if I become angry on someone, then I could hurt them. And that is something that I find difficult.
What I forget, is that they hurt me, however, with their behavior. And that I therefore have all reason to be angry.
For example if people promise something and do not comply with their appointment. That is for me something  I can be very angry about. Even if I let show that seldom. But devour that of within to me.
And yes I have a number of moments in my head, who makes me still angry with retroactive effect. But immediately there also comes a feeling  at loose, of appalling disappointed. Disappointed in people who do not prove their promises. They say of everything with their mouth, but not doing it.
But oh what  do I find it difficult to express that to them!
According to me a point to work on. Be angry if there is a reason to be angry! A learning point for me in 2010.
Therefore… don 't be frightend if I show all of a sudden anger. Because that will be as new for people around me as for myself.  We all have to get used to it!

Processing the holidays {AAM challenge #7}

Happy December Everyone!

As the holidays begin to settle in, this time of year always brings up unique emotions for each of us.  Whether they be happy and joy-filled or memories that bring sorrow and grief.  Maybe there is a mixture of both!  For our first challenge prompt in December, we want you to process your holiday memories through a layout and focus on your journaling.  I realize that this may come very difficult to some and that is why this site exists.  To challenge you and to allow to "go there".

For me December brings back memories to Sinterklaas (the Dutch Santa, kind off..).
Sinterklaas and his Zwarte Pieten come to the Netherlands by boat from Spain. They arrive round 21 November. At 5 December it is his birthday and he gives presents to the kids.
Before that day kids can put their shoe at the fireplace (or somewhere else in the house), sing a song, and the next day there is something in their shoe.
For me it always was something little, some candy. Nowadays the kids also get presents in their shoes in a lot of families. Times have changed...

Putting my shoe.
Sinterklaas kapoentje, put something in my shoe, put something in my boot,
Thank you Sinterklaasje.
Every night that I could put my shoe, I did sing this song. Even when I was very little.
Cause, if Sinterklaas had come to Holland, I could put my shoe on Saturday.
At the heater. Cause... Sinterklaas or Zwarte Piet would come through the chimney!
So my shoe was near the heater, I on my knees next to it and sing.
And it was exciting:
Would Sinterklaas hear me? Would he now my shoe was there? And... would there be anything in the tomorrow morning?
The next morning I went downstairs to see what was in my shoe. And I was always so happy with it.
And even when I didn't believe anymore, I still found it a little exciting.

My Mark {AAM challenge #6}

We all have a mark. We all leave a mark. And these marks say something about us all.
Do you have a scar or tattoo or birthmark? Is it in a fun place?
Does it make you happy or does it bring up sad memories?
Have you left your mark on someone else? Someplace else?
Well, we want to hear all about it. The good. The bad. The happy. The sad.
Tell us about your mark and what it says about you!

I always wake up with a song in my head!

Journaling:
By my fellow kindergarten teachers I'm known for it:
for each theme or subject I know a song!

It's hard to say good-bye, before you even had a change to say hello. {AAM challenge #4}

Hi you all!
Here is the new challenge from All About Me.

I think everyone has had a turning point in their life. A moment your life changed, even if you didn't realize it at the moment. It can be something small, a big event, a choice you made, that influenced your life and had a huge impact. Of course it can be a happy turning point, but it maybe a sad one too.
So... what was a turning point in your life??

For me the biggest turning point of my life was a sad one. One that happened when I was only two years old. And I didn't know it influenced me that bad, till a few months ago. It took me 40 years to realize what impact that event had on my life.
When I was just 2, my mom was expecting a baby. A little brother or sister for me. We were all looking forward to that.
But it didn't turn out that way. My little brother died at birth after 9 months pregnancy. Of course my parents were very sad and that changed my life a lot. I tried to be a sweet girl and don't do them any more pain. And that meant I wasn't myself anymore.... It influenced my whole life and the way I treated other people and myself. The death of my brother didn't get a good place in mine and my parents life.
So after 40 years I made a new turning point, and made a dragon-fly to remember my little brother. Now he has his one place in our family and that feels so good!

Hi sweet little brother, dear Alex,
Yes that is what you will always me to me, my little brother.
Even when you would have become 40 today, in my thoughts you always will be a little baby.
The brother that I sadly didn't learn to know.
You have had a big influence on my life, but I wasn't always aware of that.
The fact that you did not have a real place in my life, was hard for me.
And that's why I made this dragon-fly after 40 years.
We won't put in on your grave, as I first thought, but there where it really belongs: home, with mom and dad in the garden.
The place where you were born and where we think of you the most.
This way you at least are really part of our family and is there something real to remember you by.
I will never forget you!

Love,,
Your big sis.

Of course my turning point is a very emotional one, but I wanted to share it with you any way!
Think about your turning point and if it was a sad one, I hope you have the courage to scrap it. But, happy turning points have to be scrapped too. So please share it with us!

AAM challenge #3: Pigeon-holed / verkeerd begrepen

De 3e AAM challenge!

Pigeonhole:
1. A small compartment or recess, as in a desk, for holding papers; a cubbyhole.
2. A specific, often oversimplified category.
3. The small hole or holes in a pigeon loft for nesting.

Pigeonholed:
1. Placed or filed in a small compartment or recess.
2. claissified mentally; categorize.
3. Put aside and ignored; shelved.

For October's first challenge we'd like you to do a little thinking; a little soul searching and a little creation that's straight from the heart. We want to know -

Do you ever feel as though you've been pigeon-holed? Categorised? Labelled? Misunderstood? As though you've changed, but no-one else sees it? Who does everyone think you are? Who do you really think you are? Are they the same?

There's a lot to think about and I know that this may seem like a difficult challenge at first, but to help you along we're introducing a monthly sketch which you can use to jumpstart your layouts this month. Or not. The choice is entirely your own!

This month's fabulous sketch is courtesy of scrapsketch. There'll be a new one next month, just to keep things new and exciting.
Take a look at what the designteam did with this challenge at AAM.

Elke bladzijde is 10-10 cm (4-4 inch).
Mijn boekje heet Strong; Drop that mask!
** For this challenge I made a transparent minibook. Each page is 10-10 cm (4-4 inch).
For each page I used the sketch.
My book is called Strong; Drop that mask!

** Strong and self assured, that's how the "world" sees me.
But... am I really?
It is the mask that I put up, to disquiss how I really feel.
And yes, then it is hard to the world to see my real me.....

** My pondering side I only show to people I love.

** If I'm sad, people can see it, if they look good.
But the real reason?
That I normally don't tell. I keep it all in.

Ik ben regelmatig onzeker. Zeker over mijn eigen kunnen!
**I'm insecure. Certainly about what my capibilities.!

Dat masker moet dus af!
De mensen mogen zien hoe ik me voel.
**So, that mask need to go down!
People around me can and may see how I feel.

{AAM challenge #2} What color describes me?

A new challenge on All about me! What color describes me?

Some days are red, Some are blue.
On different days, I'm different too.
You'd be surprised how many ways
I change on different colored days...

Dr. Seuss’s book My Many Colored Days greatly influenced this challenge. Color can certainly evoke moods; it can also describe them. And if color can describe moods, color can capture a personality too…
So for this challenge we want you to dig a little deeper, think a little more metaphorically, and reflect on the question: If YOU were a color, which one would you be?

What color are you?
What color describes you? What color really speaks to you? You don’t have to take a color test to figure this out, although you certainly can if you wish to. (You can find lots of them on the internet.)

**Journaling reads:
My soul is blue. Just as blue as a peacock. Only, my blue is somewhat grubby. Like the blue from a peacock who has laid in the mud.
But under that layer of dust, there is that beautiful blue color, by my too.
There will come a moment that that color becomes visible again, for me and for others. And just like the peacock I have more beautiful colors. But mostly I'm  not fully aware of that. My 'tail' with beautiful colors is just dragging behind me. Others can see my different colors, but I myself forget that I have them.
I have to show off my feathers more oft!

{AAM challenge #1} If I live to be 100...

The day is finally here for our first All About Me Challenge
with the Design Team!

So let's jump right in!

Perhaps you'll recognize these lyrics If I live to be 100 and never see the seven wonders.. that'll be alriiiight... I am Rosemary's granddaughter, the spitting image of my father and when the day is done my mama's still my biggest fan....  If you are a Jessica Andrew's fan or listen to a little country music, you'll know that song I think.  While I'm not a huge country fan, that's a song that stuck with me since I first heard it and what has inspired our first challenge!

If I live to be 100.....

How would you finish that sentence??  Remember.. this is about YOU!
Here is what I came up with:

Supply list: Paper: MME Penny lane, Crate Prudence collection, Jilly Bean soup Minestrone, October Afternoon; Cardstock: brown and orange; Letters: Thickers American Crafts, Mini alphabet stickers My little shoebox, Jillibeen Soup Bean Brown; Bird: Maya Road; Card and envelop: Hallmark; Ribbon: Savvy 'n Sassy; Flowers: Prima; Arrows: Heidi Swap

Journaling reads:

Dear Nanna,

If I live to be 100, then I would be 10 years older then you are now.
And 90 is for me already a hugh age.
If I live to be 100, then I hope there will be someone who loves me as much as I love you. Who will think of me with as much affection as I think of you.
If I live to be 100, I hope I will not be too lonely. The chance to that is of course big, because we don't have any kids. But you are also lonely, even with 4 daughters, a lot.
As I live to be 100, I hope my health will be good. Cause always having pain, like you, that must be so hard.
But... If I live to be 100, I hope to become that together with Hans. And not like you, more then the half of your live alone..

Love, Miranda.
